A lecture on US nuclear deterrence by Vipin Narang, took place on 10 December 2024 at École normale supérieure.
The session was led by our associate researcher Maïlys Mangin, and Frederic Gloriant, Director of Centre interdisciplinaire sur les enjeux stratégiques (CIENS).
Vipin Narang talked about the role and the future of US deterrence in a new nuclear age, the relationship between the US and its allies in regard to multiple threats and the necessity to train a new generation of talent to shape strategic thinking on nuclear issues.
Vipin Narang is the Frank Stanton Professor of Nuclear Security and Political Science and a member of the Security Studies Programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
From March 2022 to August 2024, he served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and then Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy, managing a portfolio with oversight of the US Department of Defense’s strategic capabilities, including nuclear, space, missile defence and cyber policy.
