Seminar on Live Oak (Nuclear European Trajectories)

A seminar is being organised by CIENS on 8 April from 1.30pm to 6pm in Room W at 45 rue d’Ulm entitled: ‘The role of Live Oak during the Second Berlin Crisis: multilateral nuclear crisis management’.

The ‘Live Oak’ workshop is part of a multi-year research seminar on ‘European Nuclear Trajectories’ and invites a small group of students to learn about research through research, with the possibility of students getting involved in publication projects.

On 8 April, the students will attend discussions and take part in question-and-answer sessions. Frédéric Gloriant, Director of CIENS, is coordinating this seminar with Yannick Pincé, associate researcher, contemporary historian and specialist in French nuclear history.

The Live Oak mechanism was set up in 1959 after the first Berlin crisis, with the aim of bringing together the United States, the United Kingdom and France to plan crisis scenarios (military measures to maintain access to West Berlin, political and economic sanctions, etc.).
