Ukraine-Russia special week

In March 2024, CIENS organized a week dedicated to the conflict in Ukraine, with lectures and a round-table discussion on the nuclear dimension of the conflict.

On Tuesday March 19, 5pm-7pm, American-Ukrainian historian Mariana Budjeryn, presented her book Inheriting the Bomb: The Collapse of the USSR and the Nuclear Disarmament of Ukraine, Baltimore, Johns Hopkins University Press, 2023. She answered questions from the audience and journalists about the process of denuclearizing Ukraine at the end of the Cold War.

On Thursday March 21, in the historic hall of the Ecole Normale Supérieure library, a round-table discussion took place with Kristin Ven Bruusgaard, Director of the Norwegian Intelligence School, Elsa Vidal, Editor-in-Chief of the Russian branch of Radio France Internationale, and Corentin Brustlein, Doctor of Political Science and Delegate for Defense Policy and Forecasting at the DGRIS (Ministry of the Armed Forces).

On Tuesday March 26, US diplomat Rose Gottemoeller, head of the US delegation that negotiated the latest New Start arms control agreement with Russia in 2010-2011, gave a talk about her book, Negotiating the New Start Treaty, Cambria Press, 2021.
