Exceptional CIENS launch evening on Thursday, March 21: Russia-Ukraine round table

As part of the Russia-Ukraine conflict week, the Centre Interdisciplinaire sur les Enjeux Stratégiques (CIENS) is organizing a series of events with prestigious guests, including an exceptional launch evening on Thursday March 21, starting at 6:30 pm in the historic hall of the École normale supérieure library, 45 rue d’Ulm, (registration here).

Some sixty guests are invited to attend a round-table discussion on the nuclear dimension of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

High-profile guests at the round table include Kristin Ven Bruusgaard, Director of the Norwegian Intelligence School, Elsa Vidal, Editor-in-Chief of Radio France Internationale’s Russian branch, and Corentin Brustlein, Doctor of Political Science and Delegate for Defense Policy and Forecasting at the DGRIS (French Ministry of the Armed Forces).

Frédéric Worms, Director of the Ecole Normale Supérieure, and Nicolas Roche, founder of CIENS and current French Ambassador to Iran, will also be present.

Frédéric Gloriant, Senior Lecturer in Contemporary History and Director of CIENS, will present CIENS’ new research orientations, which now encompass all contemporary strategic issues: cyberdefense, outer space, arms control and disarmament, the study of evolutions in strategic thinking, artificial intelligence and the manipulation of information (see his interview on our website).

This event will be accompanied by two other exceptional events (open to the public) linked to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict:

Tuesday March 19, 5pm-7pm, in the Salle Lettres 1 on the 2nd floor of the ENS at 45 rue d’Ulm, our guest will be American-Ukrainian historian Mariana Budjeryn, to talk about her book Inheriting the Bomb: The Collapse of the USSR and the Nuclear Disarmament of Ukraine, Baltimore, Johns Hopkins University Press, 2023. Register here.

Tuesday March 26, 6pm-8pm, in the salons of the ENS management at 45 rue d’Ulm, our guest will be Rose Gottemoeller, head of the US delegation that negotiated the latest New Start arms control agreement with Russia in 2010-2011. To register, click here.
