Career

Maïlys Mangin is a post-doctoral researcher and lecturer at CIENS. She has a PhD in political science; her dissertation, defended in 2022 under the supervision of Yves Buchet de Neuilly, focused on the role of the IAEA in international policies to combat proliferation in Iraq and Iran. Between 2020 and 2023, she was a Research Fellow with the project on ‘Managing The Atom’ at the Harvard Kennedy School, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.

Her dissertation analyses the transformation of the nuclear non-proliferation missions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and their uses, from its creation during the Cold War to the Iranian nuclear crisis. She exposes the social foundations of a process of politicization of the IAEA, characterized by the “conflictualisation” of interactions between the actors who mobilize the IAEA nuclear expertise.

She was awarded the “Prix de thèse 2022-2023” by Presses du Septentrion (publication of the thesis in the ‘Espaces politiques’ collection) and the “Prix de thèse (special mention) 2023” by the French Association for War and Strategy Studies (AEGES).

Before joining CIENS, she was a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre de recherche de l’Ecole de l’Air, working on a research project (ANR ASTRID-CIGAIA) on the study of controversies in the context of the War in Ukraine and their impact on the conflict, based on the development of an Artificial Intelligence algorithm.
